(YAMI) has announced that it will expand its facility in Edmonson County, Kentucky. The expansion project will include a capital investment of $1 million and the creation of five to 10 new jobs. "We are pleased to announce our expansion plans in Cave City," said YAMI President Tadashi Oya. "This is an excellent location for our business, and we're very appreciative of the support given to us by Edmonson County and Kentucky leaders. We look forward to doing business in South Central Kentucky for many years to come." The company will expand its Edmonson County facility consisting of 33,600 square feet by an additional 16,000 square feet. With 42 current employees, YAMI's expansion will bring its employee count to near or above 50 workers. "We congratulate YAMI on its expansion announcement," said Edmonson County Judge Executive N.E. Reed. "We're grateful that they chose to locate here eight years ago and have now decided to invest even more in Edmonson County and South Central Kentucky by expanding their facility here." A plastic injection molding facility established in 2003, YAMI is owned by Yahagi Sangyo in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. One of YAMI's primary customers is DMMI-part of the DENSO family that supplies automotive HVAC systems to General Motors, Honda, Nissan and Toyota. In 2010, YAMI's sales climbed to $6.4 million. Edmonson County is an extended services county, which is a partnership with the Chamber in which the organization provides Edmonson County with economic development services ranging from lead procurement to marketing. "Edmonson County appreciates the Chamber's willingness to assist our local companies with their needs," said Judge Reed. "We are proud to be a part of the Menu of Services program and to market our collective South Central Kentucky region." "The Chamber wants all counties in the South Central Kentucky region to grow their employment and increase their wealth," said D. Gaines Penn, chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors. "We established the Menu of Services program to help accomplish this goal. We thank Edmonson County for participating in the program, and we greatly appreciate YAMI's decision to expand in South Central Kentucky." With YAMI's announced $1 million dollar investment and plans to hire up to 10 new employees, the company will make a significant economic impact on the region. Over a 15-year period, the expansion project will have a total economic impact of more than $59 million, and it will generate an additional $7.4 million in household spending. YAMI's announcement is the third economic development announcement in which the Chamber has participated in 2012.
