BOWLING GREEN, KY-The Central Region Innovation & Commercialization Center (Central Region ICC) is now accepting applications for the 2012 Buck$ for Bright Ideas Competition. This competition, hosted by the Central Region ICC and Western Kentucky University's Center for Research & Development, is a publicly funded program to encourage entrepreneurs to submit their plans to implement an innovative idea, product or invention.
"Many people in our region of the state have innovative ideas that could become the foundation for a new business," Jeff Hook, director of operations for the Central Region ICC, said. "Some of those people need help moving forward toward commercialization, and the Central Region ICC is here to help with that effort."
Competition participants will receive one-on-one assistance from the Central Region ICC and other local business development experts. In addition, participants will be eligible to win professional services worth more than $25,000. The awards will be presented at a banquet on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at WKU's Center for Research & Development.
"There will be multiple winners who will receive free services from regional professional firms for market research, patent research, accounting support, product design help and more," Hook said. "All applicants are eligible to receive one-on-one assistance with their idea at no charge and all ideas submitted will be held in strict confidence."
Applications will be accepted online at www.bucksforbrightideas.com until Wednesday, April 18, 2012. Participants must submit an application and a description of their idea, product or invention to be eligible for the competition. There is no charge to enter this contest.
Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce Chairman D. Gaines Penn says this competition is an excellent opportunity for Chamber partners to receive valuable feedback on their innovative business ideas. "A competition like Buck$ for Bright Ideas gives everyone a chance to share their ideas with business experts and receive recognition for their work. We're lucky to have the Innovation & Commercialization Center and WKU's Center for Research & Development in our midst, and we thank them for leading this competition."
More information about the contest can be found at www.bucksforbrightideas.com or by contacting Jeff Hook at the Central Region ICC: 270-901-3490 or william.hook@wku.edu.
