BOWLING GREEN, KY-At Thursday's Washington Update, United States Congressman Brett Guthrie offered insights about current legislation to partners of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce.

More than 90 Chamber partners attended the event, held at the Chamber headquarters, and sponsored by Jim Johnson Nissan - Hyundai. Chamber Chairman Todd Davis said, "We host Washington Updates such as this one as an opportunity for our partners to have face-to-face contact with our representatives in Washington, and we're grateful for Congressman Guthrie's presence here today."

Congressman Guthrie gave remarks on several issues currently dominating conversations in the legislature. He discussed the stimulus package, alternative energy and healthcare reform, explaining his views on the subjects and focusing his attention on how they will impact South Central Kentucky. Particularly, he stressed how the next generation-our children and grandchildren-will be responsible for the decisions that are made in Washington today. He explained that his goal is to find ways to not take away from the next generation or make it more difficult for our children and grandchildren to thrive in the United States.

Answering questions from the audience as well, Congressman Guthrie addressed inquires about the financial industry, Medicare, insurance for those with pre-existing medical conditions, and the medical industry as a whole. He also shared anecdotes about his freshman year in Congress, living in Washington, and the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

"The Chamber thanks Congressman Guthrie for visiting us this morning to address these issues," said Davis. "Many people consider the politics of Washington to be irrelevant to their everyday lives, but these issues will affect us daily."
