BOWLING GREEN, KY-Tuesday was a landmark day for the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce as more than 100 board members, Ambassadors, staff and partners attended a Chamber of the Year Celebration Day. The group had much to celebrate: the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) has recognized the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce as Chamber of the Year during ACCE's annual conference held in Raleigh, N.C., thereby declaring it the top chamber of its size in the United States and Canada.

Having announced the Chamber's award earlier this month at a news conference, Chamber staff and board members decided to host an official celebration day in honor of this achievement.

"This award would not have been possible without the support of our entire partnership," said 2009 Chamber Board of Directors Chairman Todd Davis. "We're so grateful for everyone's continued involvement in the Chamber, and thereby in our business community. We're proud of the work we do, and it's a great day when we're able to recognize our achievements."

Representatives from local, state and national government offices were present to congratulate the Chamber. Catherine Hamilton, City of Bowling Green mayor pro-tem, read a proclamation on behalf of the City of Bowling Green and the County of Warren, declaring August 25, 2009 a day of celebration. Also, Field Representative Jeff Belcher from Governor Steve Beshear's office read a proclamation from the governor and congratulated the entire organization.

Mark Lord, district director for U.S. Congressman Brett Guthrie; Jim Askins, field representative for U.S. Senator Jim Bunning; and Sandra Potter, field assistant for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, also shared the legislators' congratulations and appreciation for the hard work and dedication displayed by the Chamber on behalf of the entire region. Congressman Guthrie, Senator Bunning, and Senator McConnell will ask for congratulations to the Chamber to be entered into the official floor records once the legislature reconvenes.

The Kentucky Association of Manufacturers (KAM) and several past Chamber Board of Directors chairs sponsored yesterday's events. Along with KAM Vice President of Marketing and Revenue Ken Carroll, past Board chairs giving toasts were Charles Moore, Harold Brantley, Wendell Strode, Doris Thomas, Kevin Brooks, H.B. Clark, Curt Sullivan, Ron Sowell, Rick Wilson, Mary Cohron and Doug Gorman.
