BOWLING GREEN, KY—United States Senator Jim Bunning offered insights into current U.S. legislation when he spoke to the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, August 12, during his Washington Update sponsored by Jim Johnson Hyundai and Jim Johnson Nissan. More than 80 Chamber partners attended the event, held at the Chamber headquarters.
Senator Bunning touched on issues dominating conversations in the U.S. Senate at this time, particularly alternative energy sources, the state of the economy, and the military efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“The Chamber hosts Washington Updates in order to provide our partners with the invaluable opportunity to hear about the happenings in Washington firsthand from officials like Senator Bunning, and this event presented us with a special opportunity to thank Senator Bunning for all that he does for South Central Kentucky,” said Chamber President and CEO James N. Hizer, CEcD.
Hizer continued, “Updates such as the one Senator Bunning presented on Tuesday promote an awareness of issues that may affect us in the future. One of the Chamber’s goals is to help our partners remain knowledgeable about legislation, and Senator Bunning’s presentation served as an excellent resource for us to achieve that goal.”
Senator Bunning encouraged the United States to be proactive in regard to finding alternative energy sources, such as through coal to liquid technology, and he spoke on the potential tax increases in 2010. He also praised the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as their families, saying that the troops should not only be brought home as soon as possible, but also should be satisfied when they do return home that they have succeeded and brought peace to those nations. After his
presentation, Senator Bunning responded to questions from the audience with further insight into alternative energy resources and the upcoming presidential election.
“We at the Chamber are proud to host events like the Washington Update to promote legislative awareness in our community,” said Chamber Board Chairman Doug Gorman. “We appreciate Senator Bunning taking time out of his schedule to visit the Chamber and Bowling Green because he provides us with an opportunity to learn more about the activities in Washington that will influence our local community.”
