Bunch, Carpenter Receive International Trade Certification

BOWLING GREEN, KY-The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that President & CEO Ron Bunch, CEcD and Director, Regional Development Maureen Carpenter, IOM, EDP have received their International Trade Certification from the World Trade Center Kentucky. With the completion of the certification program, Bunch and Carpenter bring valuable insight to targeted businesses within South Central Kentucky.
"The International Trade Certification is a strong asset for our Chamber's economic development efforts," said D. Gaines Penn, Chamber Board of Directors chairman. "Ron and Maureen have the knowledge to support our existing businesses' growth into the international market. The certification benefits all targeted businesses as it gives us more resources to help bring new dollars into our economy."
The 2012 International Trade Certification program, a four-part seminar series hosted by the World Trade Center Kentucky, was sponsored by UPS and Frost Brown Todd. The seminars addressed the major aspects of international trade including international sales contracts, global market research, international payment mechanisms, and import/export compliance and logistics. Forty participants from local companies and chambers of commerce participated in the 2012 program, which was taught by professionals from the logistics, legal, banking and government sectors.
Sr. International Trade Specialist Darren Srebnick, LCB said, "The World Trade Center Kentucky offers this program annually to benefit any Kentuckian who has a direct or indirect connection with international trade. It was an honor to have Ron and Maureen participate in this year's program. They brought great insight and experience to the seminars, and I congratulate them on completing their certification."
Bunch noted that this certification-along with other Chamber partnerships and services-is a valuable resource for existing targeted businesses in the region. He said, "The international market presents a significant opening for growth, and our goal is to help our targeted businesses identify those opportunities and work with our partners like the World Trade Center Kentucky and the U.S. Commercial Service."
Having more than 17 years of economic development experience, Bunch is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) and has led successful local and regional economic development efforts in three states prior to coming to Kentucky. Since joining the Chamber in January 2011, he has been elected to several statewide organizations' Board of Directors: the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Japan-America Society of Kentucky, and the Indo-Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, he was elected to serve on the Kentucky Association for Economic Development Board of Directors.
Carpenter joined the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce in spring 2011 as economic development coordinator and was soon promoted to director, regional development. She was recently appointed to the Barren River Workforce Development Board and is participating in the TVA Rural Leadership Program. Prior to coming to Bowling Green, Carpenter was the president and CEO of Commerce Chanango in Chenango, N.Y. She holds her Institute for Organization Management (IOM) designation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and her Economic Development Professional (EDP) designation from the Northeastern Economic Developers Association.
