BOWLING GREEN, KY- At a news conference held this afternoon, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce presented the ATHENA Young Professional Award to Assistant Warren County Attorney Jamie Spinks. ATHENA Award sponsor Martin Management Group hosted the news conference and reception.

"Jamie's leadership skills and community involvement make her a great asset to our community. The Chamber commends her for her many achievements and proudly honors her with the 2012 ATHENA Young Professional Award," said D. Gaines Penn, 2012 Chamber Board of Directors chairman.

The ATHENA Young Professional Award, which is an extension of the ATHENA Award, was introduced at the ATHENA International Conference in Chicago in April 2007. The Young Professional Award recognizes an emerging leader in the community who demonstrates the following leadership skills:
  • Provides valuable service to his or her business or profession and to the community
  • Exhibits initiative and creativity
  • Exemplifies and upholds the goals of the professional woman
  • Clearly serves as a role model for young women personally and professionally
Chamber Program Director Gail Henderson said, "The Chamber has participated in the ATHENA tradition for many years, having presented the ATHENA Award for nearly 26 years and the Young Professional Award since 2008. We strongly value the ATHENA philosophy of incorporating the talent and expertise of women into the leadership of our businesses, our communities and our government."

The Chamber has been presenting the ATHENA Young Professional Award locally since 2008. Previous winners are Jana Sublett (2008), Laura Goodman (2009) Kelly W. Wiseman (2010) and Nancy Mitchell (2011). Martin Management Group has been a longstanding sponsor of this award and of the ATHENA Award.

"Martin Management Group is proud to sponsor the Athena Young Professional Award for another year. It is our privilege to partner with the Chamber in honoring outstanding young professionals who help women achieve success in their careers and personal lives. Jamie represents the leadership characteristics that ATHENA represents," said Amber Martin of Martin Management Group.

Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. Since graduating in 2007, she has worked as an assistant county attorney in both Warren and Allen counties dealing with misdemeanors, traffic violations, child support enforcement and juvenile status offenders.

"Jamie started out as a pre-pharmacy major at WKU, which she really liked. Then after she started working for Amy as a runner, one day she came in and said she was going to law school. It's her personality!" said Retha Spinks, Jamie's mother.

Spinks is a Chamber partner and a member of the Scottsville-Allen County Chamber of Commerce. She is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Bowling Green and served as the vice president of her Leadership Bowling Green class. She also graduated from the 2008 Bowling Green Police Department Citizen's Police Academy.

2008 ATHENA Award winner and Warren County Attorney Amy Milliken nominated Spinks for the ATHENA Young Professional Award. Milliken said, "She is like a little sister to me. I look forward to watching her continue to lead this community to a brighter future. It is certainly my pleasure to nominate such a deserving candidate."
