Charles M. Moore, Jr. Receives Herb Smith Lifetime Achievement Award

BOWLING GREEN, KY-The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce presented Charles M. Moore, Jr. with the Herb Smith Lifetime Achievement Award on May 16. This award honors community members for their dedication to furthering economic prosperity in South Central Kentucky.

Chamber Board of Directors Chairman Rodney Rogers presented Moore with the award. Rogers said, "Charlie is such a supporter of the Chamber and the entire business community in South Central Kentucky. He is representative of all that is great in our community, and we're proud to honor him with this award."

The Herb Smith Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have significantly impacted the South Central Kentucky region and its economic advancement by demonstrating a sincere desire and effort to reach beyond their personal interests to allow others to succeed while exemplifying the Chamber's core values of inclusiveness, integrity, leadership and service. The Chamber presented the inaugural award to Smith's family at the 2011 Annual Dinner.

Chamber Board of Directors chairman in 1972, Moore one of the charter members of the Chamber's Ambassadors Club and was named Ambassador of the Year in 1991, 1996, 2004, 2009, and 2010. He was the co-chairman of the Chamber's First Impressions Last Capital Campaign, which funded the building of the Chamber's current headquarters at 710 College Street.

Charles M. Moore, Jr. is chairman of Charles M. Moore Insurance. He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and is a past president of both the local and state associations of The Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky and also served as State National Director of this group. He is a licensed insurance consultant. A proud supporter of the University of Kentucky, he served as the national president of the UK Alumni Association in 2002-2003 and continues to serve on the board of directors. Moore also received the Distinguished Service from UK in 2004.

In addition to his volunteer work at the Chamber, Moore is very active in the Bowling Green community. He was the 1962 and 1971 chairman for United Way's Annual Campaign, and he is a member of the Noon Rotary Club, for which he served as president in 1979-1980. He is past president of the Warren County Chapter of Habitat of Humanity and currently serves as chairman of the board of directors of the Commonwealth Health Foundation.

Moore is a lifelong member of the Christ Episcopal Church and has served as treasurer for more than 50 years.  He and his wife, Shelby, have three daughters, Hollie Sowell, Ann Puckett and Elizabeth Bollinger. They have eight grandchildren.
